If you use the Expel Assembler, you must migrate to the updated v2 Assembler prior to June 30, 2024.

CentOS 7 to CoreOS

The Expel Assembler currently runs on a distribution of Linux known as CentOS 7. That distribution will reach end-of-life (EOL) status on June 30, 2024. Your assembler will still function after this date, but bug and security patches will no longer be available. This introduces a potential security risk to your organization.

To mitigate this risk, Expel is requiring all customers to migrate their current assemblers to the v2 assemblers we have built using a new Linux distribution called CoreOS. You must complete your migration prior to June 30, 2024.

Migrating Your Assembler(s)

We anticipate the Assembler migration process to take about one to two hours. You may also find it helpful to read through the About the Expel Assembler article, which contains a detailed explanation of how we’ve built and secured the v2 Assembler.

Step 1:  Identify Any Deprecated Assemblers

Go to the Assemblers page in Workbench. If you see one or more assemblers that are not labeled “v2”, they will need to be migrated. Then go to the Security Devices page in Workbench to identify which of your security devices (Azure, AWS, Hyper-V, or VMware) connect via the Assembler.

Step 2: Gather Necessary Team Members

The v2 Assembler runs as a virtual machine on your network, requires access to your security devices, and requires that you grant Expel permission to access its resources through your firewall. Depending on your organization, you may need to identify contacts to access permissions for virtual machine and firewall access.

Step 3: Add Your New v2 Assembler(s)

Follow the instructions to Add a New Assembler. This article will also include links for setting up and deploying your specific technology.

After you have completed the installation, including connecting your security devices, you can delete your old assembler(s). There will be no gap in your Expel service.
