This procedure uninstalls and reinstalls the Expel Managed Phishing extension for Chrome. If you centrally manage your Chrome extensions, this procedure makes sure the new version is activated for all users without requiring your users to reload Gmail.

Prerequisites

  1. This process must be completed by one of the organization’s Google Workspace administrators with the proper permissions.

Update and Configure the Extension

Follow these steps to manually update the Chrome phishing extension:

  1. Log in to https://admin.google.com/, and then navigate to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers.

  2. Find the Expel Managed Phishing extension and select the row.

  3. In the panel that opens, copy the JSON value under Policy for extensions and paste it into a text editor for use in a later step.

  4. Select the trash can icon to delete the extension.

  5. Select SAVE to complete the delete process.

  6. In the bottom right, select the plus (+) icon and select the Add Chrome app or extension by ID button.

  7. Type the value gpkcimdiphdhnenbncknfiakplflhmnc and then select SAVE. A panel opens.

  8. In the field Policy for extensions, paste the JSON value copied in Step 3.

  9. Select SAVE.

  10. Go back to the Google Workspace admin console at https://admin.google.com/ and select Security.

  11. Scroll down and open API controls.

  12. Select MANAGE THIRD-PARTY APP ACCESS.

  13. In the Connected apps section, hover over Expel for Phishing and select Change access.

  14. Choose Trusted: Can access all Google services and then select SAVE.

    The Expel for Phishing app is now listed as Trusted in the Connected apps view.

  15. Go back to the Google Workspace admin console at https://admin.google.com/ and select Security.

  16. Scroll down and open API controls.

  17. Select MANAGE DOMAIN WIDE DELEGATION.

  19. Enter the following for the Client ID and the OAuth Scopes:

    • Client ID: 528472867238-v8803num13j6691ue52qqm6tuoqpu9ns.apps.googleusercontent.com

    • OAuth scopes: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify

  20. Select Authorize. The manual update procedure is complete.

  21. To confirm the update was successful, open a Chrome browser and go to chrome://extensions. Select the toggle to enable Developer mode.

  22. Validate that the version of Expel Managed Phishing installed is at least version 0.0.19.
